Five Questions - part one

I wanted to do something a little different this time, and I thought it could be fun to answer some random questions about myself, and for my visitors (hello? anyone there...) it's an opportunity to learn something about me (woop woop). I guess I will make this part of a series, hence the 'part one', which won't be too difficult as I already found a website with hundreds of questions 😅 So here we go...

What is a telltale sign that you are upset?

I guess this depends on the meaning of 'upset', for example if I am upset as in annoyed by someone, I will often give them the silent treatment or if I really can't avoid speaking to them then I give short answers to try to appear indifferent and uninterested. I can say that some people recognise something is wrong, and others really don't get it 🙈

I guess it doesn't mean anything like feeling sad, but I will give a bonus answer anyway, in that case I actually have a bit of the British stiff upper lip, or at least I try, and I will hide my emotions, but when I'm feeling very sad I can hide it as long as I don't have to speak, and the moment I try to say something then it all comes out, the waterworks and all. Ironically, this doesn't come from the British half of the family!

If money were no object, what would you do?

I know I should answer about all the altruistic good deeds I would do with my unlimited money, but I'll be honest and say that that wouldn't be the first thought in my mind nor my first action. I will also admit that my mood at any given moment would probably change my answer here. Right now I think I would like to immediately buy a castle somewhere in the UK, maybe even Scotland (because I've had one in mind recently... FYI Borthwick castle), have a few mod cons added and move in as soon as possible! From there I think I would have the inspiration and time to either write some poetry, maybe create some artwork (I mean artwork in the loosest sense if it's made by me), and maybe start writing my first book, I could imagine it being about the history of my new castle.

If you had to live as an animal for one year, which one would you choose and why?

I would be a bird, and of course it would have to be a diurnal bird of prey like the Buzzard. I'd choose this because of the freedom that comes with flight and hopefully I could keep my human mind in the process to appreciate it all (I don't look forward to the diet though).

What is a smell you associate with your childhood?

Blown out birthday cake candles. Not only does this smell remind me of my childhood, it's also one of my favourite smells in the world. I wonder sometimes if there is a candle with just this scent? We can dream, right?

Who has had the biggest impact on your career?

This would be my dad. When I was younger he introduced me to all things history, taking me to places like Warwick Castle, Mountfitchet Castle, historic houses, buying me the Horrible Histories books (which may be why I like horror too), and from an early age I've always been enchanted by the past, and that's why I chose my career.
